This year, the prestigious Padma honour was handed over to the first batch by Pranab Mukharjee, on Friday. The top Indian actresses Sridevi and Sharmila Tagore have received the Padmasri and Padma Bhushan awards respectively. Along with them, Rahul Dravid, the cricket idol and the top producer Dr D Ramanaiddu have received the Padmabhushan. The theatre personality B Jayashree, the photographer Pablo Bartholomew and Vandana Luthra, the entrepreneur and the veteran director of Telugu film industry Bapu aka Lakshmi Narayana Sathiraju have got the Padma Shri titles.
A co star of the actress Sharmila Tagore in hit many films, Rajesh Khanna, who died in July and Jaspal Bhatti, the comedian, who had passed away in last year’s October, got the Padma Bhushan title posthumously. The industrialist Adi Godrej and the Boxer Mary Kom have their names in the list of people receiving the Padma Bhushan. The director of Sholay Ramesh Sippy, the veteran actor Nana Patekar, wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, shooter Vijay Kumar and the boxer Dingko Singh will be receiving the Padma Shri. The other people among the Padma awardees include the actress Ratna Pathak Singh, scientist Anil Kakodkar and R K Singh, the Union Home Secretary.
